ODISHA TO BE A SMART SKILL STATE
Team Wadhwani Foundation led by Dr. Ajay Kela, President & CEO met Minister, Skill Development & Technical Education Department Shri Sanjay Kumar Das Burma and Chief Secretary Shri A.P. Padhi, IAS and volunteered to offer technology platform, e-content and capacity building of technical institutions in the State for scaling up of skilling. Earlier, the team held a joint discussion chaired by Shri L.N. Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary, SD&TE Department with Principal Secretary, Industries Shri Sanjeev Chopra, IAS and Commissioner-cum-Secretary, School & Mass Education Smt. Ranjana Chopra, IAS, DTET and Director, Employment on the detailed modalities for introduction of skill education in schools, colleges and scaling up of skill programmes in technical institutions like, ITIs, Polytechnics and Engineering Colleges. Wadhwani Foundation has proposed a MoU for Odisha as the ‘Smart State’ on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis. It will be an initiative coordinated by Skill Development and Technical Education Department to transform Odisha as a leader in job creation and top talent availability in the country. It is proposed to be achieved through an integrated approach to entrepreneurship, innovation and skill development in the State. The team, thereafter, visited the IIT Campus, Bhubaneswar also. It may be mentioned here that Wadhwani Foundation, a US based organization has currently initiated self development training programme in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Jharkhand – apart from the neighboring countries – Pakistan and Bangladesh. It aims at accelerating economic development in India and other emerging economies by working on focused areas like innovation, research, and career and skill education.
